Help & Guides
Everything you need to get the most from BetTurtle.
Your Journey
BetTurtle organises your experience around four goals: Tips (study form faster), Learn (understand form study), Systems (build automated systems), and Data (analyse racing data). Choose the goal that best fits what you want to achieve.
Tips
Daily Tips
Tips are provided for every race from approximately 6am. Find our recommended best bets under the Tips menu. Look for WIN TIP, NAP TIP and NB TIP badges on each race card.
- Check tips early (from 6am) to get the best odds before markets shorten.
- Focus on NAP (strongest selection) and NB (next best) for our highest confidence picks.
- Cross-reference tips with horseshoe ratings — a tip backed by all-green horseshoes is a stronger signal.
- Use Tip Stats to see which race types and conditions our tips perform best in.
Horseshoe Ratings
Our 5-factor rating system (Fitness, Ability, Conditions, Vibes, Market) helps you quickly assess each horse. Avoid the reds and focus on the greens for a strong shortlist. Enhanced and Pro subscribers can click any horseshoe to see an AI explanation of exactly why it is green, amber, or red.
- Fitness — recent form and time since last run. Green means race-fit.
- Ability — past performance relative to today's competition. The most important factor.
- Conditions — going, distance, and course suitability. A red here means the horse is out of its comfort zone.
- Vibes — trainer form, jockey bookings, and stable confidence signals.
- Market — how the betting market rates the horse. Green means well-backed.
- A horse with 4-5 green horseshoes is a strong candidate. One red in Ability is a bigger concern than one red in Market.
- Use the Insights Panel to compare all runners against today's conditions at a glance, and click the Intel button for AI-generated Horse DNA profiles.
Tipping Stats
We pride ourselves on transparency and publish the last 90 days of tipping stats. Visit our Hall of Fame for the biggest priced winners we've tipped.
Value Odds
We estimate the minimum odds before a horse represents value. Find this under → Odds tab, along with steamer/drifter info.
- A horse at 8/1 with a value price of 5/1 is overpriced by the market — potential value.
- Combine value odds with strong horseshoe ratings for the best opportunities.
- Steamers (shortening odds) suggest money coming in — the market knows something. Drifters (lengthening) can signal problems.
Selection Shortlist
Click on any horse to shortlist it. View and track all your selections at My Shortlist with latest odds and results.
Pointer Reports
40+ pointer reports highlight key angles: market movers, hot trainers, course winners, first handicappers and more. See the full list on the Reference tab.
- A horse appearing on multiple pointer reports is a stronger signal than appearing on just one.
- Start with the free reports (Market Movers, First Handicappers, Class Changers) to build familiarity.
- Use pointers as a starting point, then dig into the full race card to confirm your analysis.
AI Analysis Comments
Each runner has an AI-generated analysis comment summarising key form factors, conditions suitability, and market position. Find these under the button on any race card.

- Click on any past race date to see the full result — check how strong the competition was that day.
- Trainer and jockey stats show strike rate at this course and over different time periods — look for patterns, not just the overall number.
- Days since last run matters: 14-30 days is usually ideal for flat, longer gaps are normal for jumps.
Ratings
Live horseshoe ratings and selection picks update throughout the day as betting markets develop. Colour-coded ratings: green (positive), amber (neutral), red (risky). Enhanced and Pro subscribers can click any horseshoe for an AI explanation, and click the sparkle icon for a full Horse DNA profile.

Automated Systems
System Builder
Create, test and manage automated racing systems using 100+ filters. Check out the Free System to see how it works, then create your own.
Daily selections for our most profitable systems are available at System Tips.
- Start simple. Systems with 3-5 filters tend to outperform complex ones with 10+. Overfitting is the most common mistake.
- Begin with the Free System to understand how filters work before creating your own.
- Focus on one race type (e.g. flat handicaps) rather than trying to cover everything.
- A good system has a strike rate above 15% and positive ROI over 90+ days. Be patient — short-term results can be misleading.
Quick Start: Your First System
Try our "Big Priced Winners" system:
- Go to Systems → Create System
- Name it "Big Priced Winners"
- Deselect No on BetTurtle Tip (only Yes ticked)
- Set Odds to 10 to 1000
- Set Pick Rank to 1 to 1
- Deselect Green on Conditions (Amber + Red only)
- Deselect Red on Ability (Green + Amber only)
- Click Save
Manage Your Systems
View all your systems at Systems → View Systems. See summary stats, edit rules, or delete systems you no longer need. Systems you don't want to see can be hidden from the list.
System limits: Basic (3), Enhanced (15), Pro (50).
Backtesting & Performance
Every system automatically backtests against 30-day, 90-day, and all-time results. View wins, losses, strike rate, ROI and profit/loss to assess how your rules perform before committing real money.
- Focus on the 90-day period for the most reliable indication of performance. 30-day can be too volatile.
- Beware of systems with very few selections — a 50% strike rate from 4 bets means nothing statistically.
- A system needs at least 50-100 selections before the stats become meaningful.
- If a system looks too good, check if it only fires on a handful of races — it may be overfitted to past results.
System League
The 30-day System League ranks all systems by recent performance. See which approaches are working right now and compare your systems against others.
Pointer Reports for Systems
Pointer reports can inspire system rules. For example, the 80:20 report uses Pick Rank 1-5, Odds Rank 1-5, Red Shoes 0-2. Translate any pointer's criteria into a system to automate it. See the full list on the Reference tab.
